Information

This is the Virginia championship, but anyone can compete regardless of their state of residence. See more information on the Championship Eligibility tab.

This event will take place on the arena side of the brand new Henrico Sports & Events Center. Please see the Venue Information tab for information on where to park and what doors to use. Also, please note that outside food and beverage is not permitted.

There is a competitor limit of 400 competitors.
The base registration fee for this competition is $55 (United States Dollar).
If your registration is cancelled before you will be refunded 95% of your registration fee.
Registrants on the waiting list may be accepted onto the competitor list until .
If you are a registered competitor you may change your registered events until on the Register tab.
No on the spot registrations will be accepted.


Please keep in mind that registrations are approved manually after payment, so your registration may not be approved immediately.
Your registration is not complete until your registration fee has been paid.

WAITLIST INFORMATION:
If the competitor limit of 400 has been reached, you can still register and pay the registration fee to secure a spot on the waitlist. During the registration period, any competitor can cancel their registration and allow the first person on the waitlist to take their spot. If you find that you cannot make it to the competition after registering, please contact us so that we can maximize attendance.
All registrants still on the waitlist after the registration period will have their registrations deleted and will be fully refunded.
We may completely close registration if the waitlist becomes very large.

For First-Time Competitors

All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. This video gives a basic overview of the rules. In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition.

For All Competitors

When you arrive, you will receive a card with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also have judging/scrambling/running assignments on your card. Every competitor is expected to help out during the event(s) they are registered for. The card will look like the following:

If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.

Virginia Championship 2023 is open to all competitors. However, the title of Virginia Champion in each event will be restricted to competitors from Virginia. In order to be eligible to win a title, you must log in to the CubingUSA website with your WCA account and select your home state by November 1st, 2023 at 11:59pm EDT. After the competition has ended, Virginia Champions may also be required to prove residency in order to claim their titles and any additional prizes associated thereof. Please see the regional title policy found here for more details on how this system works.

To staff at this competition, you must complete this application

Staff will be given a (busy) schedule to follow throughout the competition. We will let you know whether or not you have been selected for staff after registration closes.

Your $55 registration fee will be refunded if your application is accepted (after the competition), but you must register and pay for the competition to be eligible for the refund. Anyone who does not register for the competition will not be able to compete.

Benefits for staffing at this competition include waived registration fee, and free lunch on all three days of the competition.

Please note that staff members will be given a very rigorous staffing schedule in return for the perks outlined above. They are expected to be proactive throughout the competition and to inform the organizers and Delegates ASAP if they find they are unable to attend.

Staff is open and encouraged for non-competitors as well!

This event will take place at the brand new Henrico Sports and Events Center. As the construction is wrapping up on this still, there may be changes to the information we have on where to park, enter, etc. This tab will contain updates to that information as we become aware of it.

Hotels:
We will not be hosting a hotel block for this competition. However, there are ample hotels in close proximity to the venue. We suggest booking early to lock in the best rates!

Food:
The venue does not allow outside food or beverages inside the building (with the exception of water bottles). There will be concessions available at the venue (with gluten-free and vegetarian options) or there are several restaurants nearby. If you go to a restaurant instead of concessions, please be sure to eat and make it back in time for your next events.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced across rounds (see Guideline A1a2++).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
