You can find an individual schedule here. Each competitor will be provided with a printed copy of their invididual group assignments at registration. As this is a major competition, we cannot adjust groups. Please arrive on time to your assigned groups.
Throughout the competition we will also need judges, runners and scramblers. All competitiors will need to do some judging at the bare minimum. In any event in which you compete, you are expected to assist with judging. If you don't know how to help please come and ask, there is almost always something for you to do.
Spectators are permitted and may enter FREE of charge.
We encourage spectators and it is often good to come watch first to understand how a competition operates. You will then know what to do when you do compete. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer. If you would like a judging tutorial please approach a Delegate, they will be wearing the bright red polo shirts.
Spectators are encouraged to learn how to judge. Tingman has made an excellent video that tells you everything you need to know. We will run a judging tutorial at the same time as the new competitor tutorial and you can also have someone teach you how to judge later in the day. Judging is not difficult and you don't need to be a cuber to be a successful judge, it is an excellent way to make the time fly by!
No tickets are required for spectators but we ask you to avoid the busy morning period.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How can I change my events?
You must make any change to your registered events by Wednesday 10th September. You can change your events via the competition registration page.
Q. What time should I arrive at the competition?
Registration will be running on all days of the competition, please see the schedule tab to see when you need to arrive for Check-in. You only need to be at the competition on days you are competing. For example, if you are only competing in 3x3 and Pyraminx, you do not need to attend on Thursday or Friday. You should always be at the venue ready to compete at least 30 minutes before you are scheduled. Sometimes we run ahead and if you are not available for your group you most likely will not be permitted to join a later group. Please note the schedule is subject to change on the day.
Q. I have never been to a competition before, is this a good competition for me?
YES! Although this is a National Championship, Speedcubing Australia is committed to providing an exciting and interactive experience for all! Please ensure you attend the newcomer tutorial on Friday or Saturday which can be seen on the competition schedule. Please also note that some events have a qualification which must be met by Wednesday 10th September.
Speedcubing Australia also runs HEAPS of competitions throughout the year. If you would like to attend a smaller-scale competition before attending a National Championship, you can see a full list of upcoming competitions on the WCA Website
Q. How old do I have to be to compete?
Anyone can compete at any age! We encourage anyone considering to compete to register as it will be a great experience regardless of age.
Q. Do children need to have adult supervision?
YES. Adult supervision of children is required at ALL times. The WCA Delegates and Organisers are very busy running the competition and cannot be responsible for supervising children.
Q. How fast do I have to be to compete?
To compete you only need to know how to solve the cube! Please check the events tab for information in time limits. Please also note that some events have a qualification which must be met by Wednesday 10th September.
Q. How can I prepare before the competition day?
Before attending you should have read and understood the WCA regulations and watched our tutorial videos. You may also like to watch this helpful video that will show you what to expect.
Q. What do I need to bring?
You need to bring a puzzle for each event you are signed up to compete in - make sure they are allowed per the WCA regulations. We also recommend you bring a water bottle. Many competitors also bring a 'warm up cube' to use between submitting their puzzle for scrambling and starting their official solve. All timing equipment is provided by Speedcubing Australia.
Q. How do I find out if I've progressed to the second round?
Times will be uploaded through the day onto WCA Live. Please allow up to an hour from finishing your solves to them being uploaded. After all the times of a round has been entered, you can see if you are in the following round.
Q. Who can I ask for help on the day?
There will be several WCA Delegates wearing red polo shirts, feel free to ask them any questions you may have on the day.
Q. Can I help on the day?
Of course! Throughout the day we will need judges and runners so please see our Delegates to ask how you can best assist. If you would like to learn how to judge - here is a helpful video.

As seen at previous Australian Nationals, the States Cup event is back! In this exciting knockout event, teams of 3 cubers from the same Australian state or territory will battle it out to find which state is fastest in Australia. This crowd favourite event will be run on Saturday Evening.
Teams consisting of 3 cubers from the same Australian state or territory will be selected to participate in the States Cup. Teams may contain members who do not represent Australia, however those members must be residents of the state or territory, at the discretion of the organisation team.
The top two teams from each state will qualify, with any remaining positions being filled from the next best teams up to a maximum of 4 teams per state.
States Cup Regulations:
- The competition format is a simple seeded knockout tournament.
- Each competitor will solve a single 3x3 cube, one after another. The winning team is determined by the fastest total time.
- Standard WCA penalties (e.g. misalignment, timer stops/starts) apply for the solves.
- The members solve one 3x3x3 cube one after the other. Thus, there are 3 timers, 3 cubes and 3 competitors on the table.
- The second and third timers must be started only when the previous member has finished their solve and has put back the 2 hands on the timers.
- Inspection time applies to all 3 members at the same time.
- After 12 seconds of inspection, all 3 members of the same team must release their own cube on the mat, hold their two hands on the timers.
- The effective start of the 2 teams giving battle is given by the judge or official speaker.
- When the first solver is cubing, the second and third ones must hold their 2 hands on their timers. Same rule for the third solver while the second is solving their cube. Penalty: DNF.
- The second and third team members may continue inspecting while their teammate(s) are solving the cube, but must do so with their hands remaining on the timer.
- The winning team will be the team with the lowest total time.
- In case of the same total times, the best individual solve is used to declare the winning team.
- This is an unofficial team event, no results will be stored in the WCA database.
- As this is an experimental format, the judges for this event may exercise discretion in the case of disagreements and rule interpretation - their decision will be final.
Live Results
Live results will be provided via WCALive. It may take up to an hour between times being set and them appearing online.
