As a non-official side classification, we are hosting the 2nd Battle of Alberta! We will sort competitors by Northern and Southern Alberta, with the 52nd Parallel N being the cut off (Just below Innisfail).
For the scoring of the Battle of Alberta side event, 3x3, 2x2 and Pyraminx (first round only), we will use the best 25 competitors of the north group vs the best 25 competitors of the south group.
We will average their times per group and the fastest group will get 1 point.
For 4x4 and Square-1 we will do the same with the top 15 per group.
This way there are 5 points to give away, but there's more!
If someone gets a Canadian record Ao5 in any of the events (including finals) that group gets an additional 2 points per record.
In the rare case the groups north and south get the same averaged time, we will use the best Ao5 of the first round will win the point.
If the top ao5 of each zone are the same, then the best single of the first round will win the point. If that is still the same time, the point for that event will be decided by coin flip.
The group with the largest amount of points wins the Battle of Alberta!
If you did not compete in the Battle of Alberta Last Year, or you have been affected by the new North/South division line, please contact us so we can add you to the correct group.
If you do on the spot registration, we will ask you what zone you would be part of after you are fully registered.
Wear your favourite jersey! We encourage competitors and guests to wear their favourite Albertan sport team jersey, as we hope to create a fun Battle of Alberta atmosphere!
For first-time competitors:
There are multiple things a first-timer must know before competing. All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. Watch this video for the basic overview of the rules.
In addition, please read this WCA Competition Tutorial before coming to the competition to learn about the procedures for judging.
All competitors:
When you arrive, you will receive a card/nametag with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also receive staffing assignments. Most competitors are expected to help at this competition.
We will provide a judging tutorial at the beginning of the day. This will allow anyone with questions about how to judge to be properly prepared when they are expected to help. We hope that this system will fairly divide up the judging of the competition and make the competition run smoothly for all.
All spectators:
Spectators must remain at least 1.5 meters away from the solving stations when they are in use, as per Article 7b of the WCA Regulations. No flash photography is permitted.
