For first-time competitors

Please be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. Of course, those regulations contain a lot of legalese, so we have a a few videos made specifically for new competitors, just to show the basics of competing. These videos will explain most of what any cuber competing for the first time will need to know.
* Speedcubing Canada New Competitor Tutorials Playlist (from 2023)
* Chris, Kit, and Lauren's WCA Competitor Tutorial (from 2015)

There will also be a competitor tutorial at the start of the competition - see the schedule tab. If it is your first time competing, you must attend the tutorial.

FAQs

Q: What will the competition look like?
A: A competition usually runs throughout the whole day where cubers meet up and have fun, although you are more than welcome to stay the whole day or leave whenever. You will compete in events you have signed up for and have the choice to cube at a waiting table.
Q: Who is allowed to compete?
A: Everyone, from all ages are allowed to compete! Do not be hesitant if you are not experienced with cubing or competing, we encourage newcomers to come along, we will help out.
Q: Whose cubes do I use?
A: When competing, it is ideal to use your own cube. Make sure you have one ready to go when it is time to compete. Equipment like timers will be there to compete with. (The competition will not supply you with cubes to compete.)
Q: How do I check the results of the competition?
A: There will be a website: WCA Live to check concurrent results throughout the day. Official results will then be posted the following days of the competition.

Do not be intimidated by all these rules and expectations. Competitions are for everyone to have fun! If at any time during the day you have any questions feel free to ask us!

For first-time competitors:

There are multiple things a first-timer must know before competing. All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. There is a video here for the basic overview of the rules.

In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition to learn about the procedures for judging.

All competitors:

When you arrive, you will receive a card/nametag with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also receive staffing assignments. All competitors are expected to help at this competition. For each event you sign up for, you will be assigned to help out for just one group of that event. If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.

We will provide a judging tutorial at the beginning of the day. This will allow anyone with questions about how to judge to be properly prepared when they are expected to help. We hope that this system will fairly divide up the judging of the competition and make the competition run smoothly for all.

All spectators:

Spectators are required to be familiar with Article 7b of the WCA Regulations. No flash photography is permitted.

Cash prizes will be given out to all who place in the top 3 of each event.
