Competitor List

Registrants must pay the registration fee in order to be added to the competitor list. Unpaid registrations will not be accepted. Organizers manually accept registrations one at a time in the order the registration fees are paid, so your name may not appear on the competitor list immediately.

Once the competitor list reaches the 120 competitor limit, registrants who pay the registration fee will be added to the waiting list instead of the competitor list. Due to the competitor limit, completing your registration within the initial registration period does not guarantee you a spot on the competitor list.

Waiting List

The waiting list is ordered based on the timestamp that registrants paid the registration fee. If you are added to the waiting list you will be informed via an email. Additionally, you can ask about your position on the waiting list by emailing Speedcubing Canada.

If anyone on the competitor list deletes their registration, the person at the top of the waiting list will be moved to the competitor list. After February 14th, 2025, the competitor list will be finalized and registrants who are still on the waiting list will be refunded 100% of their registration fee. Registrants on the waiting list may email Speedcubing Canada at any time to forfeit their spot on the waiting list and be refunded 100% of their registration fee.

If the competitor list fills up quickly, registration could close earlier than the originally listed date (February 14th, 2025). The waiting list will close at the same time that registration closes.

The Inn on Prince Hotel & Conference Centre Truro (attached to the venue) is offering a special booking rate for guest rooms.

You may make a reservation under the group rate here. The rate includes Wi-Fi, Parking and Breakfast.

Important: To avail of the group rate, reservations must be made by January 22nd, 2025.

Saturday vs. Sunday

You only need to attend the competition on the day(s) you are competing. For example, if you are competing in events held on Saturday, you do not need to attend on the Sunday unless you advance to the next round of an event.

Name Tag Pick-up

Competitors will be able to pick up their name tags at the check-in table on Saturday morning until approximately 9:15 AM, or at data entry table after 9:15 AM and on Sunday.

Food

There is no food or drink allowed in the venue at any time. The Lunch period is extended on Saturday to allow competitors to leave the venue for lunch if needed.

You can find your groups and judging assignments here after registration has closed. These "groups" are when you are assigned to compete, judge, and/or scramble during an event you are registered for.

Per Regulations 1e2 and 1f2, all competitors must be available to help judge and scramble. If you're unsure how to judge, please review the WCA Regulations, watch this video, or ask one of the WCA Delegates at the competition.

Please plan to arrive at the venue at least 30 minutes before the start of your first group and be ready to compete five minutes before it is scheduled to begin. Showing up excessively late to your group may result in not being allowed to compete in that event.

When does the competition start? When should I arrive at the venue?

On Saturday, the check-in desk is open from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM. If you are unable to make it to the competition before check-in period, that's okay because you can still check in at the data entry table when you arrive. Once you check in on Saturday, you will not need to check in again on Sunday.

Please aim to arrive 15 mintues before the start of your first event on each day. Please see the competition schedule and your personal schedule for full details.

This is my first competition! What should I expect?

Please watch these short videos:

Parent-Child Team Blind (11:45 AM - 12:15 PM)

This is a Best of 1 (Bo1) round of 3x3x3 Parent-Child Team Blind. You can be a part of a team even if you are not an official competitor. There is room for up to 12 teams. Each team is expected to supply their own blindfold.

There is no pre-registration. We will make an announcement when the competition starts.

Each team will consist of two participants: the Solver (Parent) and the Caller (Child). A hybrid of the regulations for 3x3x3 Cube and 3x3x3 Blindfolded event, with a few additional regulations, will be used.

  • The Solver dons the blindfold before the inspection phase and must not remove the blindfold until after the solving phase is over.
  • To begin the inspection phase, the judge removes the cover.
  • During the inspection phase, the Caller may inspect the puzzle and call out verbal instructions.
  • The Caller must place the puzzle onto the mat before 15 seconds of inspection has elapsed.
  • The Solver must begin the stackmat timer before 15 seconds of inspection have elapsed.
  • During the solving phase, the judge will not hold an additional opaque object.
  • During the solving phase, the Caller must not touch the puzzle or the Solver. Penalty: DNF.
  • During the solving phase, the Solver and Caller may verbally communicate with each other.
  • During the solving phase, if the Solver pops the puzzle, the Caller may verbally assist, but not physically assist, the Solver in finding the puzzle parts and reassembling the puzzle.
  • To end the solving phase, the Solver places the solved puzzle onto the mat and stops the Stackmat Timer.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
