Information

Minnesota Newcomer Series!

This is a very beginner-friendly competition! All are welcome but if you have never competed before this is the one to sign up for!

This competition is participating in the official WCA Newcomer Month 2025. The registration process will reserve 50% of spots for new competitors. New competitors are considered to have no WCA ID or a WCA ID with 2025. Returning competitors are considered to have a WCA ID that is from 2024 or earlier. All competitors must still follow all registration requirements for their registration to be considered complete.

Registrations will be accepted based on the following:

  • 50% of spots, as defined by the competitor limit, are reserved for new competitors.
  • Initially, 50% of spots, as defined by the competitor limit, are available for returning competitors on a first come, first serve basis.
  • If greater than 50% of new competitors register before 50% of spots are filled by returning competitors, any additional new competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis alongside returning competitors.
  • If the spots reserved for new competitors are not filled by new competitors before registration closes two weeks prior to the competition, remaining spots, up to the competitor limit, will be accepted from registered returning competitors.

This competition is a series competition with Minnesota Newcomer Sunday 2025. You may only register for and compete in one of these competitions.

Series FAQ

Q: What events are at each competition?`
A: The events in this series are as follows:

Q: Can I compete at more than one competition?`
A: No, you can only compete at one. This allows more people to compete. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Q: Can I attend any of the competitions as a spectator?`
A: Yes! Spectators are free. Please also feel free to volunteer to help when we need it.

Q: Can I register for one and then switch to another?`
A: As long as registration is still open you can switch, however, please keep in mind:

  • If the other competition is full, you will go to the end of the waitlist out of fairness to others.
  • You will have to register and pay for the other competition. A 90% refund will be given for the competition you don't intend on competing in.

Q: Both competitions are full, can I be on multiple waitlists?`
A: Yes! If both competitions are filled with 90 competitors each, then you can be on the waitlist for both competitions. Please keep in mind:

  • You will have to pay for all waitlists you wish to be on to be considered registered on the waitlist.
  • Whichever waitlist you get off of first will be the one your registered. You cannot choose which one you prefer.
  • A full refund will be given for the competition you did not make it off the waitlist for.
  • If you do not make if off of any waitlist you are on, a full refund will be given at the deadline

Q: My registration was accepted but I can no longer attend. Can I remove my registration?`
A: Yes! Please let us know as soon as possible so other competitors can have your spot. If your registration was accepted, a 90% refund will be given to accommodate the processing fee as long as it is requested before the deadline.

Q: I am on the waitlist but I can no longer attend, can remove myself from the waitlist?`
A: Yes! Please let us know as soon as possible so others can move up the waitlist. If you are not a registered competitor and are on the waitlist, you will receive a 100% refund.

Q: Registration closed and I didn't make it off either waitlist. What now?`
A: Please be sure that you paid - if you did not pay, you were never considered fully registered. If you did pay, you will receive a 100% refund We are also working on announcing more competitions all the time - Click here to see Minnesota competitions!

For each event, competitors are called to compete one group at a time. To facilitate this, all competitors will be assigned to a specific group for each event. Judging, running, and scrambling assignments for helping out at the competition are also listed for each competitor.

The competitor cards will also be available on a lanyard for each competitor at registration the morning of the competition. All competitors will be required to wear their lanyards throughout the day of the competition.

Group assignments will be announced closer to the competition date.

Live results will be available here during the event.

Kristin Knowles with Cubing Enrichment Opportunities will offer competitors hands-on access to some of the best and newest speedcubes on the market. Come check out this booth to experience some fresh, high-performance hardware to elevate your skills!

**Cubing Enrichment Opportunities will be open from 7:30 - 11:30 on Saturday. **
