ALL COMPETITORS MUST READ THIS TAB BEFORE REGISTERING.

New Competitors:

  • Before the competition, watch this great video made by WCA Senior Delegate Kit Clement with the basics of how it all works.
  • Also check out this written tutorial on the WCA website to learn about the procedures for competing and judging.
  • We encourage first time competitors to test out the timing equipment before your first attempt! Feel free to ask a staff member how competing works.
  • The competitors will be split up into groups for competing. You will be assigned a group, which you can find on the Groups Tab.
  • On the day of the competition when your group number is called you bring your puzzle up and put it on a scorecard with your name on it and wait in the competitor waiting area until your name is called.
  • It's a good idea to arrive before the scheduled time for your event because if you are not there for the last call you might not be allowed to compete.
  • Read the "All Competitors" information below.

All Competitors:

  • Be familiar with the WCA Regulations
  • We are going to need all the help we can get from volunteers throughout the day to make the competition run well. You may judge in any group that you aren't competing during, in addition to your assigned judging.
  • Information about assigned judging will be available around the room; you will be assigned one group of helping for each event you are competing in.
  • Parents and spectators are welcome to judge too, it's a great way to have a new experience and be more involved with the event, other than competing!
  • If you do not know how to judge all of the staff members are more than happy to teach you.
  • Flash photography is NOT allowed because it is very distracting to people while they are solving.
  • You must NOT talk about the scrambles of an event while it is still in progress (2g3).
  • Make sure all screens of any cameras or phones you have on the table are facing away from you and do not touch them during the attempt, otherwise this will result in a DNF (2i2).
  • Please treat the venue with respect, pick up any trash, keep track of your puzzles, and respect other people's puzzles.

We will provide a judging tutorial at the beginning of the day, right before the start of the 3x3 Speedsolving event. This will allow anyone with questions about how to judge to be properly prepared when they are expected to help. We hope that this system will fairly divide up the judging of the competition and make the competition run smoothly for all.

Schedule Changes and Rounds:

  • Be aware of regulation A1a3: if we are lacking volunteers or the competition begins to fall behind schedule, we reserve the right to make the limits stricter as needed. We don't want that to happen, so please consider helping out when you aren't competing!
  • In regards to later rounds, be aware of regulation 9p3. If you won't be present for a further round you made it to please let us know so we can drop you and move someone else into the round; similarly, if you aren't present when the further round begins we may assume that to be your withdrawal and drop you so the next competitor in the rankings can compete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I register?
A: First you need to make sure you have created a WCA account. You can do this by going to the sign-up page and creating an account. Once you have created the account and confirmed your email address, go to Register page on the left and follow the instructions fully and carefully.

Q: Why am I not on the registration list yet?
A: Please make sure that you have followed the instructions listed on the Register page. You could also be on the waiting list. The competitor limit can be found on the General Info page, and you can see the number on accepted competitors on the Competitors page also on the menu. If you have done everything correctly and the competition is not full then we will accept you as soon as an organizer is available. If you believe you have followed the steps correctly and still are not on the registration list after 2-3 days, then feel free to email us at the contact link on the General Info page. If a waitlsit begins, it will be linked publicly in a separate tab.

Q: I am no longer able to attend, what do I do?
A: The first thing you need to do is tell us as soon as you know via the contact link on the General Info page. Competitions generally fill up quite quickly and letting us know that you can't attend means we can add someone from the waiting list.

Q: If I do not attend do I get a refund?
A: If you inform us you are no longer attending before the limit date for refunds on the General Info page then you will receive a 90% refund. If this time has passed then you will not receive a refund.

Q: How fast do I have to be to compete?
A: We recommend that you check out the Events and Schedule tabs - if you can make the time limit for the events you want to compete in, then you're fast enough! Many people come to competitions just to beat their own personal bests, and meet likeminded people, with no intention of winning or even making it past the first round.

Q: Are there different age categories?
A: All competitors compete on the same level and all ages are welcome.

Q: Do I use my own cubes to compete?
A: Yes! Make sure to bring cubes for all events you are competing in and look after them, so we dont have to get them back to you if they end up in the Lost and Found.

Q: Am I allowed to bring a guest?
A: Yes, you are allowed to bring as many guests as you please for no additional cost. Space in the venue may be restricted during busy times so please try to limit the number you bring, as well as list the number when registration asks.

Q: Can I come only to spectate?
A: Yes! However, the venue is usually quite busy during the morning, so if you are just coming to spectate please come in the afternoon.

Q: I'm a parent, what can I do to get involved?
A: If you're looking for something to do then you can certainly help out with the running and judging! We always need help with this and they are really easy procedures to follow. You can come to the introduction to competing where we go through all of it there, and there is a tutorial on the Important Information tab as well. Running is also great for step count and requires zero knowledge of cubing if you're worried about that.

Q: When do I arrive at the competition?
A: If you are a new competitor, we highly recommend that you show up for the new compeior tutorial which is held first thing in the morning. Otherwise, we recommend you turn up at least 15 minutes before your first event, you can check when this is on the Schedule tab. This will give you enough time to register, find a seat, and warm-up.

Q: What do I do when I arrive?
A: The first thing you do when you arrive is find the registration desk if registration is open. If you arrive before registration opens, we will make an announcement as to when it does open. If there is nobody present at the registration desk then find a staff member and we will make sure to register you.

Q: When can I leave the competition?
A: You are more than welcome to leave whenever you want. If you have no more events left then you are not required to stay. Even if you have more events later, you are not required to compete, but doing so is highly recommended.

Q: Is there lunch provided
A: Lunch is not provided but there are several options in the area. This venue may have its concessions stand open, but this is not guaranteed.

Q: How do I find results?
A: All the results will be found on this page a couple of days after the competition, once they have all been checked and uploaded. Live results will be available at live.worldcubeassociation.org
