The competition is open to all competitors regardless of experience and skill, but certain event-based time limits will be in place so as to make sure we can stay on schedule and get through the days on time. Who can win the North Island Championship?
A: Officially the winner listed for all the events on the WCA website will be the overall winner in each event, however we will also have North Island podiums where those who have declared they are representing the North Island will have a separate podium and these will be the North Island champions for 2021.
How do I declare my region?
A: There is a drop down box on the registration page where you can select your region. This will be what is used to determine which island you are representing at the competition.
How often can I change the island that I am representing?
A: This will follow the same rules as changing the nation you represent in the WCA so you may only change this once per year and cannot change between the South Island Championship and the North Island Championship in the same year. You can however change in a new year if you have moved regions.
Where will the region information be posted?
A: For now this information will not be public other than which Island you are representing. However in the future we will add an option to the SNZ registration page where you can opt in or out of publicly listing your region for the purpose of creating regional rankings for all 17 official WCA events. These rankings will be dispayed on the SNZ website.
Why do you need to know my region?
A: This is to try and see where our competition attendees are travelling from so we can better cater future competitions to visit every region with cubers in them. As well as create the regional rankings list in the future.
Can I choose to not select a region?
A: Yes, this will however make you ineligible for North or South Island podiums.
Can I win a South or North Island podium if I do not represent New Zealand in the WCA?
A: No, this will be treated the same as a National Championship where you can still compete for the overall podiums but not the Regional champiosnship.
How can I change my events?
A. You must make any change to your registered events by 31/07/2021. Contact the organisational team detailing your event changes.
What time should I arrive at the competition?
A. You should be at the venue ready to compete at least 30 minutes before your first scheduled event, however if you wish to turn up earlier and help with the competition then please do. Please note the schedule is subject to change on the day.
How old do I have to be to compete?
A. Anyone can compete at any age! We encourage anyone considering to compete to register as it will be a great experience regardless of age.
How fast do I have to be to compete?
A. To compete you only need to know how to solve the cube! Please check the events tab for information in time limits for each event.
What do I need to know before the competition day?
A. Before attending you should have read and understood the WCA regulations. You should also know when your events are scheduled throughout the day.

Written Competitor Tutorial: https://www.worldcubeassociation.org/edudoc/competitor-tutorial/tutorial.pdf
How do I find out if I've progressed to the second round?
A. Times will be uploaded throughout the competition to WCA live. Please allow up to an hour from finishing your solves to them being uploaded. After all the times of a round has been entered, you can see if you are in the following round.
Who can I ask for help on the day?
A. Your Delegates for this competition are Alex Asbery and Luke Heath-Edwards feel free to ask them any questions you may have on the day.
Can I help on the day?
A. Of course! Throughout the day we will need judges and runners so please see our Delegates to ask how you can best assist.
Where can I ask other questions?
A. The organisational team can answer all your questions through the contact link on the info page. You can also find the delegate email addresses on the WCA website.
For the first time in New Zealand we will be accepting applications to become a dedicated staff member for the NZ North Island Championship 2021. The roles and benefits of a dedicated staff member will include:
* Having a set scrambling, judging and/or running schedule for the competition
* Discounted registration fees for the competition
Will dedicated staff be the only ones scrambling, runnning or judging for the competition?
A: No, the dedicated staff will just give the organisation team a small group of staff that can be scheduled to aid throughout the competition
How much will I have to staff as a dedicated staff member?
A: This will depend on how many applications we get for dedicated staff. However, all dedicated staff will have scheduled breaks and also the option to choose events they want to warm up for during the application process
How many dedicated staff will be used for the competition?
A: This will be based on registration numbers for the competition and will increase with more competitors.
How do I apply to be a dedicated staff member?
A: The application process to become a dedicated staff member can be done at the same time as the registration process on the SNZ website.
If I do not intend to compete can I still be a dedicated staff member?
A: Yes, please use the contact us email link on the info page to sort this out directly with the organisational team.
