- Information
New Zealand Nationals 2022 is an official World Cube Association (WCA) sanctioned speedcubing competition. Speedcubing is solving the 3x3x3 Cube or other similar puzzles as quickly as possible. The competition is open to all competitors regardless of experience and skill, but certain event-based time limits will be in place so as to make sure we can stay on schedule and get through the days on time. No prior experience in WCA competitions is necessary, but competitors should be familiar with the WCA regulations.
In addition, New Zealand Nationals 2022 will crown the National Champions in 16 WCA official events, over the course of 3 days.

There is a competitor limit of 300 competitors.
The base registration fee for this competition is $40 (New Zealand Dollar).
If your registration is cancelled before you will be refunded 50% of your registration fee.
Registrants on the waiting list may be accepted onto the competitor list until .
If you are a registered competitor you may change your registered events until by contacting the organization team.
No on the spot registrations will be accepted.
Any spectator can attend for free.
Payment is made via the external website with two options to pay, either bank transfer or Paypal.
Your registration will be effective once we have received your payment, so please get your registration as early as possible to secure your spot. Please be mindful of bank processing times.
If all the registration spots fill up, a waiting list will be created. If a confirmed competitor decides to cancel their registration, then the first competitor on the waiting list will take their place. Competitors on the waiting list will be arranged according to the order in which their registration payment is received. Registration fees will be held by Speedcubing NZ until the final list of competitors is confirmed (11:59pm on the 1st of December 2022). Those competitors on the waiting list who do not get a confirmed spot will be issued a full refund the week after the competition ends.
Please note that even if the competitor list is not showing as full at the time you register, there may already be other registrations waiting to be accepted, so you are not guaranteed a spot until your registration is accepted and appears on the competitor list.
Competitors may make changes to their registered events up to the 1st of December 2022 by submitting a request via the Speedcubing NZ Contact Us page.

Q. How can I change my events?
A. You must make any change to your registered events by 25/11/2022. Contact the organisational team detailing your event changes.
Q. What time should I arrive at the competition?
A. You should be at the venue ready to compete at least 30 minutes before your first scheduled event, however if you wish to turn up earlier and help with the competition then please do. Please note the schedule is subject to change on the day.
Q. How old do I have to be to compete?
A. Anyone can compete at any age! We encourage anyone considering to compete to register as it will be a great experience regardless of age.
Q. How fast do I have to be to compete?
A. To compete you only need to know how to solve the cube! Please check the events tab for information in time limits for each event.
Q. What do I need to know before the competition day?
A. Before attending you should have read and understood the WCA regulations. You should also know when your events are scheduled throughout the day.

Q. How do I find out if I've progressed to the second round?
A. Times will be uploaded throughout the competition to WCA live. Please allow up to an hour from finishing your solves to them being uploaded. After all the times of a round have been entered, you can see if you are in the following round.

New Zealand Nationals 2022 will have a core team of dedicated staff to fill the roles of Scramblers and Runners as well as those doing Data Entry for all 3 days.
Judges will be assigned through Groupifier to all competitors, those who consistently do not show up for their Judging duties will not be able to participate further in the competition. You will only be scheduled to judge in as many events as you are competing in at a maximum. Keep an eye on your emails to check what your staffing schedule will be in the weeks leading up to the competition.
Important notes for all competitors:
* Judging assingments are not optional and refusal to participate can result in disqualification from the competition (see regulation 1e2)
* Staffing assignments will be issued for all first rounds prior to the competition commencing, assignments for subsequent rounds will be generated after the previous rounds have concluded and will be posted publicly in the venue and also emailed to competitors
* If you are unsure of your ability to judge there are multiple video tutorials available on YouTube to ensure you have the basics covered before this competition (or you can come to one of our other events throughout the year and give it a go in person)

Time limit
If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).
Cutoff
The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).
Format
The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
