Rubik’s Nations Cup was first held at the World Rubik’s Cube Championship 2017. Teams of three competitors from the same country squared off in an exciting knockout tournament. This crowd favourite event will be held again on the Saturday evening of the Rubik’s WCA Oceanic Championship 2024.
Teams consisting of three competitors from the same Australian State or Oceanic Country will be selected to compete for the title of Oceanic Rubik's Relay Champions. Non-Oceanic teams will not be permitted entry into the Rubik's Relay Cup.
Rubik’s Relay Cup Regulations
- The competition format is a simple 16 team seeded knockout tournament.
- Each competitor will solve a single 3x3 cube, one after another. The winning team is determined by the fastest total time.
- Standard WCA penalties (e.g. misalignment, timer stops/starts) apply for the solves.
- The second and third timers must be started only when the previous member has finished their solve and has put back the 2 hands on the timers.
- Inspection time applies to all 3 members at the same time.
- After 12 seconds of inspection, all 3 members of the same team must release their own cube on the mat, hold their two hands on the timers.
- The effective start of the 2 teams giving battle is given by the judge or official speaker.
- When the first solver is cubing, the second and third ones must hold their 2 hands on their timers. Same rule for the third solver while the second is solving their cube. Penalty: DNF.
- The second and third team members may continue inspecting while their teammate(s) are solving the cube, but must do so with their hands remaining on the timer.
- The winning team will be the team with the lowest total time.
- In case of the same total times, the best individual solve is used to declare the winning team.
- This is an unofficial team event, no results will be stored in the WCA database.
- As this is an experimental format, the judges for this event may exercise discretion in the case of disagreements and rule interpretation - their decision will be final.
Due to logistical and venue constraints we will have qualification requirements for most events. Only those who meet the qualification standard will be able to compete in the respective event:
- 3x3, 2x2, Pyraminx and Skewb - NO qualification requirements - even newcomers are welcome!
- 3x3x3 Multi-Blind - Top 20 competitors ranked by Best result.
- 4x4x4 Blindfolded - An official WCA single result under 10 minutes.
- 5x5x5 Blindfolded - An official WCA single result under 30 minutes.
- Clock - An average time below 12.00 seconds
- All other events - An official WCA single result in the event. Note many of these events will have cut-offs, so just because you qualify does not guarantee you will be able to complete a full average.
Results will only be considered from official WCA competitions that conclude before the closing of registration on November 29, 2024.
You may register for events you have not yet qualified for, but these events will be deleted from your registration prior to the competition if you do not meet the qualification requirement.
