What is a competition series?

When two or more competitions are in a "series", it means that you can compete in one of the competitions in that series. This allows more competitors the opprotunity to compete at WCA competitions in the Greater Toronto Area.

For this series, you can compete in Pickering Favourites Autumn 2023 or Waterloo Favourites Autumn 2023, but not both.

When should I arrive at the venue?

Please plan to arrive about 30 minutes before the start of your first event. If you are not competing in events during the morning, you do not need to be present until the afternoon. For example, if your first event of the day is 3x3x3 Cube, which starts at 1:45 PM, we would recommend arriving around 1:15 PM.

Please see the full schedule here (note: the schedule is subject to change depending on how many competitors register for each event).

Where do I check-in?

Competitors can pick up their name tag at check-in desk near the main entrance of the banquet hall.

If the check-in desk is closed when you arrive, please go to the data entry desk near the back of the banquet hall, behind the solving stations.

What should I expect at my first competition?

Please watch these short videos:

Please find you groups and judging assignments here: https://www.competitiongroups.com/competitions/PickeringFavouritesAutumn2023. These "groups" are when you are assigned to compete, judge, and/or scramble during an event you are registered for.

Per Regulations 1e2 and 1f2, all competitors must be available to help judge and scramble. If you're unsure how to judge, please review the WCA Regulations, watch this video, or ask one of the WCA Delegates at the competition.

Please plan to arrive at the venue at least 30 minutes before the start of your first group and be ready to compete five minutes before it is scheduled to begin. Showing up excessively late to your group may result in not being allowed to compete in that event.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
