Information

Please note, this competition includes only blindfolded events and clock. If you are interested in non-blindfolded events we recommend signing up to the Speedcubing Australia mailing list to be notified as new competitions are announced.

Competitors are strongly encouraged to bring a guest who is familiar with the process of judging blindfolded solving.

Additionally, 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 Blindfolded are strictly limited to 20 competitors due to space restrictions. This will be allocated on a first-come-first serve basis in order of payment.

There is a competitor limit of 30 competitors.
The base registration fee for this competition is $15 (Australian Dollar).
If your registration is cancelled before you will be refunded 100% of your registration fee.
Registrants on the waiting list may be accepted onto the competitor list until .
If you are a registered competitor you may change your registered events until on the Register tab.
No on the spot registrations will be accepted.
Any spectator can attend for free.

Payment:

Upon registering you will receive an email stating “Your registration for Please Be Quiet Brisbane 2022 is submitted and pending approval”. This does NOT mean that you are on the registration list. Competitors will not be approved until payment has been made.

Please ensure you have paid the registration fees via Stripe on the register page. Your registration is not complete and will not be processed until you have paid the $15 registration fee. Contact the organisational team if you encounter an issue.

Waiting List:

  • Once the competitor limit of 20 has filled, the waiting list will be opened.
  • You must pay the $15 registration fee to be added to the waiting list.
  • New registrations will be added to a waitlist and sorted in the order of payment.
  • Waitlisted competitors will only be added to the competition if an existing competitors withdraws.
  • All competitors still on the waiting list after 17th September will be removed and provided with a full refund.
  • You may enquire about your position on the waiting list by contacting the organisational team.

Deleting Registration/Refunds:

  • If you can no longer make the competition you may request a refund.
  • To receive a full refund you must contact the organisational team by 17th September.
  • Withdrawing enables us to maximise attendance and for competitors on the waiting list to attend.
  • Refunds will only be issued after this date if you or your guardian test positive to COVID-19 and are forced to isolate.

You may change the events you are registered on the Register tab by 17th September. After this date it is not possible to add further events. It is also acceptable to not show up for any event you do not wish to compete in.

  • This competition will comply with the QLD Government requirements in place at the time of the competition. Please see the FAQ tab for any COVID requirements, which may change closer to the competition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can I change my events?
You must make any change to your registered events by 17 September. You can change your events via the competition registration page.

Q. What time should I arrive at the competition?
You should arrive for registration between 8:30 am and 8:50 if you are competing in multi-blind. You should be at the venue ready to compete 30 minutes before you are scheduled. Please note the schedule is subject to change on the day.

Q. How old do I have to be to compete?
Anyone can compete at any age! We encourage anyone considering to compete to register as it will be a great experience regardless of age.

Q. How fast do I have to be to compete?
To compete you only need to know how to solve the cube! Please check the events tab for information in time limits for each event.

Q. What do I need to know before the competition day?
Before attending you should have read and understood the WCA regulations. We also recommend that you watch this helpful competitor guide and read this competition tutorial. You should also know when your events are scheduled throughout the day.

Q. How do I find out if I've progressed to the second round?
Times will be uploaded through the day. Please allow up to an hour from finishing your solves to them being uploaded. After all the times of a round has been entered, you can see if you are in the following round.

Q. Who can I ask for help on the day?
Your WCA Delegate for this competition is Nathan Seeto and the competition organisers are Ming Dao Ting and Conan Mo - feel free to ask them any questions you may have on the day.

ATT: If you've been to Northside for a comp before, THIS ONE IS IN A DIFFERENT BUILDING.

Northside Christian College shares a campus with Nexus Church, and there is ample parking on site. The best place to park is Car Park 7 or 8, as shown on the map below.

The two competition rooms are located in the CINC building (Centre for Innovation and Creativity), which is the newest looking sandstone building on the campus.

There are also several restaurants and shops at Northwest Plaza, 500m down the road on Flockton Street, including Pizza Hut, Subway and Coffee Club.

Live Results

Live results will be provided via WCALive. It may take up to an hour between times being set and them appearing online.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced across rounds (see Guideline A1a2++).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
