We will be holding an unofficial FTO (Face-Turning Octahedron) competition during lunch. Competitors can only participate in this unofficial event if they are registered for the competiton.

3x3x3 One-handed may have a potential second round if Megaminx Round 1 is completed by 4:15pm.

Getting to Campus

Note that if you are coming by public transportation, the Green Line Metro stop is not on campus. You will need to take the Shuttle-UM 104 bus from the stop to campus. Please factor this into to your travel time when planning to come to the venue.

Parking the day of the competition will be restricted due to a football game. Participants can find on-street parking throughout campus, or park in two lots Terrapin Trail Garage and Mowatt Lane Garage, which can both be found on this parking map (6 and U2 in the Parking Directory). NOTE: The competition is being held in the Grand Ballroom . The Grand Ballroom is located on the first floor on this map.

For First-Time Competitors

All newcomers must be familiar with the WCA Regulations before competing. This video gives a basic overview of the rules. In addition, please read this document before coming to the competition.

For All Competitors

When you arrive, you will receive a card with personalized information detailing your events and what group you will be competing in for each event. In addition, you will also have judging/scrambling/running assignments on your card. Every competitor is expected to help out during the event(s) they are registered for. The card will look like the following:

If you do not arrive to help during your scheduled event, and there are not enough staff members, we reserve the right to disqualify you from competing.

There is no official hotel for this competition, and no room blocks will be offered. Below are suggestions for lodging in the area.

There are multiple hotels located on Route 1(Best Western, Hampton Inn, Cambria Hotel, College Park Marriott, and more) located less than five minutes away from the venue. These are not an exclusive list of hotels, nor are these hotels affiliated with, sponsoring, or holding special accommodations for this competition.

Private lodging sites such as AirBnB also offer options in the area.

NOTE: ALL COMPETITORS MUST PAY THE $15 REGISTRATION FEE. If you are selected for staff, you will be refunded the registration fee AFTER the competition has ended.

Staff members will be provided with free registration and lunch for the competition.

Final staff decisions will be made after registration closes.

Face-Turning Octahedron (FTO) will be held with the help of Extra Events.

We will have one round of FTO during lunch, as seen on the schedule. Only those who register for the competition normally may register for the event.

Regulations for extra events at the EE website can be found here.

There is no additional registration cost for competing in FTO, but you must have an approved registration on the WCA website before registering. Registration for the event will close on November 12, 2021, 7:00 AM local time.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
