  • Most competitors will receive judging assignments and are expected to fulfill them. Failure to show up to judge may result in disqualification. If you do not know how to judge, please attend the new competitor tutorial to learn how.
  • Check-in will start at 7:30 AM on Saturday. You only have to be present for check in on the first day you are competing.
  • You should be present at least 30 minutes before the start of any events you are competing in. If you miss your group you may not be able to compete in that event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I register?
A: First you need to make sure you have created a WCA account. You can do this by going to the sign-up page and creating an account. Once you have created the account and confirmed your email address, go to the Register page on the left and follow the instructions fully and carefully.

Q: Why am I not on the registration list yet?
A: Please make sure that you have followed the instructions listed on the Register page. You could also be on the waiting list. There is a competitor limit of 250, and you can see the number of accepted competitors on the Competitor List. If you have done everything correctly and the competition is not full then we will accept you within 48 hours. If you believe you have followed the steps correctly and still are not on the Competitor List after 48 hours, then feel free to contact us using the contact link on the General Info page.

Q: I am no longer able to attend, what do I do?
A: The first thing you need to do is tell us as soon as you know via the contact link on the General Info page. Competitions generally fill up quite quickly and letting us know that you can't attend means we can add someone from the waiting list.

Q: If I do not attend do I get a refund?
A: If you inform us you are no longer attending before Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:59 PM CST then you will receive a 75% refund. If this time has passed then you will not receive a refund.

Q: How fast do I have to be to compete?
A: We recommend that you check out the Events and Schedule tabs. If you can make the time limit for the events you want to compete in, then you're fast enough! Many people come to competitions just to beat their own personal bests, and meet likeminded people, with no intention of winning or even making it past the first round.

Q: Are there different age categories/What is the average age of competitors?
A: All competitors compete on the same level and all ages are welcome. Most competitors are between 10 and 25 years old, with the average age usually falling in the mid-teens. However, all ages are welcome - everyone can and should cube!

Q: Do I use my own cubes to compete?
A: Yes! Make sure to bring cubes for all events you are competing in and look after them so you dont lose them.

Q: Am I allowed to bring a guest?
A: Yes, you are allowed to bring as many guests as you please for no additional cost. Space in the venue may be restricted during busy times so please try to limit the number you bring, as well as list the number when registration asks.

Q: Can I come only to spectate?
A: Yes! However, the venue is usually quite busy during the morning, so if you are just coming to spectate please come in the afternoon. We recommend coming after lunch on either day.

Q: I'm a parent, what can I do to get involved?
A: If you're looking for something to do then you can certainly help out with the running and judging! We always need help with this and they are really easy procedures to follow. You can come to the Competitor Tutorial on Saturday morning where we go through all of it there, and there is a tutorial here as well. Running is also great for step count and requires zero knowledge of cubing if you're worried about that.

Q: I'm not competing in any events on Friday. Do I still have to be there?
A: No. You do not have to be present on any days where you do not have any events you are competing in.

Q: When do I arrive at the competition?
A: If you are a new competitor, we highly recommend that you show up the New Competitor Tutorial on Saturday morning. Otherwise, we recommend you arrive at least 30 minutes before your first event - you can check when this is on the Schedule tab. This will give you enough time to check in, find a seat, and warm-up.

Q: What do I do when I arrive?
A: The first thing you do when you arrive is find the help desk if check-in is open. If you arrive before check-in opens, we will make an announcement as to when it does open. If there is nobody present at the help desk then find a staff member and we will make sure to check you in.

Q: When can I leave the competition?
A: You are more than welcome to leave whenever you want. If you have no more events left then you are not required to stay. Even if you have more events later, you are not required to compete, but doing so is highly recommended.

Q: How do I become a staff member?
A: Read the information and fill out the form on the Staff Application page. You will receive an email if you have or have not been accepted as staff. Please keep in mind that we expect all staff to have some prior staffing experience.

Q: Is there lunch provided?
A: Lunch is not provided but there are several options in the area. Please keep in mind you may not bring in any outside food or drink.

Q: How do I find results?
A: All the results will be found on the home page within a week after the competition, once they have all been checked and uploaded. Live results will be available on WCA Live.

Staff Application

Expectations for Staff

  • Most staff will spend the majority of their time during the competition performing scrambling and running duties on one or more assigned stages of the competition. You will be expected to proactively fill in those roles as you see them become available throughout the day, and also follow the directions of the stage lead delegates to take on other tasks such as judging as needed.
  • Some staff will have assignments on the Help Desk/Data Team. While performing this role, you will assist with answering questions from attendees, handling check-in, providing new competitor tutorials, performing data entry and double-checking entered results, printing and sorting scorecards for subsequent rounds of the competition, and other tasks as needed when directed to do so by the stage leads for Help Desk/Data Team.
  • Staff will have breaks in their assignments in order to compete in their registered events and will also be able to take breaks as needed as long as the stage lead delegates are made aware.
  • We expect all staff applicants for this competition to have some form of previous official staffing experience or at least have regularly helped out significantly at multiple previous competitions.
