There are a multitude of parking garages on OSU campus. The Neil garage is the closest but others include the 12th Avenue Garage and Tuttle Garage.

Please keep in mind that due to the football game on Ohio State campus this weekend, parking may be limited. Please plan accordingly.

Hotels:

UPDATE: The hotel blocks have now filled, no more rooms are available in the blocks.

We plan to have multiple hotel blocks with several Columbus hotels for this competition. Due to the football game, many hotels near the university are already sold out, and those that are left have fairly expensive rates, so our hotel blocks will be some driving distance away, please plan accordingly.
Currently we have two hotel blocks, with more to be added depending on hotel responses

To get to the Ohio Union from the airport, take I-670 W and follow until you reach exit 4A, then contine onto US-23 North to North 4th Street. From there, follow US-23, then turn left onto Chittenden Avenue and then turn right onto North High Street.

Columbus is accessible by buses operated by COTA, including a route from the Columbus airport to downtown, all of which can be found at that link.

Ohio State Football Game:

As of now, there is an Ohio State Football game against Penn State announced for Saturday, October 21st 2023. This will make travel and hotels slightly more difficult than a normal competition. Because the university will focus on the football crowd of over 100,000 compared to our expected attendance of 1,000, we recommend people get hotels and travel plans set as soon as you can. We will do what we can to ensure things go smoothly and everyone has a fantastic time.

CubingUSA Great Lakes Championship 2023 will hold an unofficial event known as States Relay on Saturday night. This event, based on the Rubik’s Nations Cup from Worlds 2017, features teams of three competitors from the same state or region.

The event is a 3 cube relay knockout tournament. It will feature 16 teams of three cubers solving 3x3 head-to-head in a single-elimination bracket. Each state in the Great Lakes team is guaranteed at least one team and cubers from other regions can form teams.

Watch the 2019 Rubik's Nations Cup here: Video

Regulations (based on the Rubik’s Nations Cup Regulations)
The competition format is a simple 16 team seeded knockout tournament.
Each competitor will solve a single 3x3 cube, one after another. The winning team is determined by the fastest total time.
All competitors must supply their own puzzle
Standard WCA penalties (e.g. misalignment, timer stops/starts) apply for the solves.
The members solve one 3x3x3 cube one after the other. Thus, there are 3 timers, 3 cubes and 3 competitors on the table.
The competitors will lift their cube covers simultaneously and begin inspection, with the standard 8 and 12 calls being made. Once the 12 second call is made, the competitors must place the cube on the mat and put their hands on their timer, then the judge will begin a countdown. The first timer must be started once the judge says "Go!" The second and third timers must be started only when the previous member has finished their solve and has put back the 2 hands on the timers.
Inspection time applies to all 3 members at the same time.
When first competitor is solving, the second and third ones must hold their 2 hands on their timers. Same rule for the third solver while the second is solving their cube. Penalty: DNF.
The second and third team members may continue inspecting while their teammate(s) are solving the cube, but must do so with their hands remaining on the timer.
The winning team will be the team with the lowest total time.
In case of same total times, the best individual solve is used to declare the winning team.
This is an unofficial team event, no results will be stored in the WCA database.

Time limit

If you reach the time limit during your solve, the judge will stop you and your result will be DNF (see Regulation A1a4).
A cumulative time limit may be enforced (see Regulation A1a2).

Cutoff

The result to beat to proceed to the second phase of a cutoff round (see Regulation 9g).

Format

The format describes how to determine the ranking of competitors based on their results. The list of allowed formats per event is described in Regulation 9b. See Regulation 9f for a description of each format.
